Alexander Isak’s name has resurfaced in headlines after reports emerged of his £300,000-a-week wage demands to extend his contract with Newcastle United.
The Swedish striker had been Liverpool’s top attacking target earlier this summer, before the club pivoted to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million.
While Newcastle are keen to secure Isak’s future and fend off interest from elite European clubs, his agent Gonzalo Gaitan has added fuel to speculation, stating:
“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player.”
Isak is contracted to St.
And despite the lengthy deal, Newcastle are engaged in renewal talks to eliminate any exit threat.

However, the striker’s hefty wage demands have sparked criticism, particularly from pundit and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan didn’t hold back:
“There is a part of me that understands that he signed a long-term contract with them, so they don’t have to do anything of the sort,” he replied sarcastically.
“Then you get into the territory of do you have to argue with the reality of a player having the hump?”
Jordan acknowledged Isak’s importance, saying:
“I will consider they are all part of a unique outfit, he might be the cherry on the top, but believe me if someone’s wages go up there’s not an acceptance that he is the star, we shouldn’t get a pay rise.”
He also pointed out the implications for Newcastle’s wage structure:
“…it is not just what you do for Isak, it’s what you then have to do for others.”
On whether Newcastle should entertain a transfer, Jordan noted:
“You’re as secure as the long-term length of your contract… Besides bad form and being a bad actor, he has no leverage.”
He concluded with clarity:
“£150m on the nail with no drip feeding down, if people want him that’s what they have to pay.”
While Liverpool have moved on with Ekitike, the Isak situation remains a contract standoff worth watching — with top clubs circling and tensions simmering beneath the surface.
